•  If there is education in this game, how is it balanced with fun?

The word “fun” is used a lot throughout the game. It appears as if the designers are trying to actively make the players believe they are having fun. So in addition to actually making the game fun, they want to tell the kids "You are having fun".

Examples of usage of the word "fun":

  • Fun appears a lot in the dialogues between Chiko and other characters.
  • FOM (FUN-O-Meter) has the word fun in it.
  • abc.net.au/chiko - Where Fun Always Come First! (Usage of the word Fun in their tagline)

The game is definitely fun but there are many instances where several children complained about the game. Many complained about the technology needed to run the games (Flash) and not having or understanding how to install it. There is also the issue of trying to please a wide range of ages and skill levels. However, I do think they did a really good job of offering a lot of different options for how one can go about succeeding in the game and reaching the end goal. Many different levels of difficulty were provided for the tasks to accommodate the varying skill levels that they would likely encounter amongst the players.

A major issue that comes up in a lot of the dialogues is the problem with the long download time needed for each game episode. Many were frustrated by this. However, this game was designed for high speed internet connections, and the objectives were to have the participants see the need for high speed internet connections, which this game successfully shows.
