SOCIAL SKILLS

Yes the players do learn. Much of what they learn is taught indirectly. It is never explicitly stated to them that they must learn during the game. Most of the time in the game, they are on a mission to find fun and help make Planet Squerx fun again.

Throughout the game, there appears to be an underlying goal of teaching the player some social skills. The description given of Chiko describes him as an average teenage boy but also points out some of his flaws. He is described as having problems straightening out his priorities, having problems following instructions, and being over-confident.

Examples of some social skills the users may learn from the mini-games include:

Thinking through problems
Learning to see the patterns
Learning by doing (through trial and error)

Examples of some skills they may learn from the story include:

Persistence - trying until you suceed.
Learning can be Fun.

While using the forum, the participants also develop social skills and experience as they relate to communication via the internet message boards. They learn different ways to communicate according to the informal rules developing as forums on the internet develop new and interesting needs and uses.
